An experiment with trying to develop a 'realistic' mech's leg. Most of the art for battelmechs leaves much to be desired when it comes to how joints and mechanisms actually work, so this was an attempt to solidify in my own mind what was going on in there.
I had a lot of people say this looks too much like hydraulics rather than 'myomers', which have always been explained as something like muscle: expanding or contracting in response to electrical signals. I figure that the myomers would simply be arranged into bundles and encased in environment-proof canisters, for durability and ease of replacement. The second image uses a different style of lower-leg muscle, to allow the traditional looking streamlined leg. I encased it with armor to explore how such armor would fit around a machine with multiple joints in it.
